2013 September Update

Living Hope Haiti was blessed to be a part of another surgical trip to Haiti on August 15 - 19. It was our 20th trip!!! The wonderful staff and doctors of Baptist Health South Florida did an outstanding job by working incredibly long hours in service to some of the poorest people on earth.

The surgeries included OB-GYN, plastic, and general surgery. I have included a couple of pictures of the patients that we worked on. It was another amazing trip, and we thank BHSF for their support of this wonderful work.

The national test scores are in for our schools, and the results are excellent! In Haiti, every student must take a national exam after the sixth, ninth, and twelfth grades. For the 6th grade national exam, our three elementary schools combined for a total of 58 students passing out of 59.

For our 9th grade class at Trinity High School 53 out of 55 passed the national exam, and for our 12th graders 7 out of 12 passed the final exam to graduate high school. The five who did not pass the exam will be retaking it, and we expect most of them to pass.

These test scores are the best in our region, better than all the other schools except one school in Gonaives, which is a large city 20 miles northwest of St Michele. The school that did better than us is named L’Ecole de Freres, and it has been an excellent school for over 50 years. Their graduates have gone on to become prime ministers and other national figures in Haiti. So, they are the competition in our region. Rev. Dr. Dorcinvil is to be congratulated for these outstanding results in only our 11th year of operation.

All schools in Haiti open on October 1, so we look forward to another great school year for Living Hope Haiti. As always - thank you for your support.

Please contact me with any questions that you might have. Thank you!
